A series of portraits dealing with intergenerational trauma in the indigenous community in Western Australia. Yamatji woman Kearah Ronan was arrested and locked up as she was too sick to attend a court hearing where she was set to give evidence against her former partner. Meanwhile, after a challenging childhood and time in jail, Marlon (with the tattoos) was making incredible progress, becoming disciplined with gym work. I encouraged him to show his fine physique. To me, he looked like a proud warrior. Not long after these photographs were taken, Marlon and a friend were refused admission onto a train for being intoxicated. He ran home along the train tracks and was killed in a tunnel.
